This is the my very first on-line chat forum so please any mistakes. I would like to replace my counter tops without removing them. I have been given ideas from painting to cover them with tile. I have a very tight budget. Could someone please offer some ideas other than Granite cover counter tops. Thanks

You can re-cover them with laminate. The existing tops will need to be sanded real well to assure a good bond with the new material.
You can intall tile over them. Sand and cut small grooves in the existing surface then fasten wire mesh down then plaster and tile.
Paint will not work.

Counter tops can be redone by sanding them and using laminate to cover the old tops. the procedute is to sand the existing tops and apply famica glue to the old cabinet top and to the new top you are replacing it with. Let this glue sit the recommended time (it will feel dry to your finger tips) and then carefully place the new top over the old one. Be careful when you do this. The new top cannot be repositioned if you boo boo. Sometimes it is more economical to take the old tops off and install tope that are already made from Lowe's or some other home Improvement store. these stores normally clean out the cabinet tops and clearance them out about every 3 months so finding what you want at a good price is normally easy.

My crock pot burned two small holes in my kitchen countertop made of laminate. I cannot replace it; it's only 2 years old. Should I try to somehow seal these holes up? what should I use? Help.

Depending where the damage is you can purchase built in cutting boards or glass inserts that a counter person can install for you.
They would simply cut out the section the size of the new wood or glass insert and place in into the hole. Many homeowners have these built in when they install new tops. Check with a kitchen and bath supplier in your area and ask them about these built in accessories.

I'm thinking about re-doing my kitchen counter tops. I bought new all white appliances in 2005, and put in a light colored hardwood floor in 2006. My current counter tops are white laminate and my cabinets are a pale wood, (lighter than the hardwood loors). My kitchen is very tiny (I'm in a one bedroom condo) the kitchen dimensions are 8x7. With that said, would granite go with the colors I mentioned? All the pictures I see show either black appliances or stainless steel. With the recent upgrades I've done, I don't want to have to replace my appliances, since they are only 2 years old. Also, how much would granite cost for an 8x7 kitchen? Thanks much! You can also email me photos if you have them of granite counter tops with white appliances. I could also email you pictures of my existing kitchen for a better idea of what it looks like.sharon_mpa_2000@yahoo.com
