I am looking to purchase a nationally registered historic marker in Tennessee and i would like to renovate the site. The current owner is just letting the building rot to the ground, windows are knocked out, foundation is beginning, to crumble, roof is leaking. Let's say the building is on its way to be condemned. My question is, "Does anybody know of a government grant that I can apply for to have this building renovated after I purchase it.?" Email me at cmylonghorn@yahoo.com

thanks

You first need to contact the local historic group in this area to see what can and cannot be done as far as restoration. They can assist you on finding the hard dollars if any are available to assist you in this undertaking. Their job is to see that all work follows the guidelines set forth when this property was listed as historic. There is very little money these days to do this type of work and rebuilding of these type of structures cost tons of cash to do and to meet the guidelines for restoration.
