We are wanting to tile around our bathtub, but after pulling off the tub surround, we discovered it is a concrete wall. I was told we would need to install backerboard, but how do I secure this to the wall?

Is is a concrete wall or is it a mud wall that someone else has taken off the tile from?
If its a mud wall and not a concrete wall simply tile right over it.

If its a cement wall, you do not need any tile board but I would use Kerdi Mat on the walls to water proof them and you should be good to go.

ok thanks, the problem I still have is that the concrete wall is not very smooth, so something has been put over the concrete wall, and there are some chunks of this stuff off the wall, so I am looking at a wall that is not ready for tile, so what do I need to do if not use the cement boards?
