I’m about to extend my hardwood flooring into a breakfast area that has linoleum flooring. As it exists now, the hardwood flooring from the living room ends with a piece of molding that acts as a room break and the linoleum starts at the molding and continues to the far wall. My house sits on a slab and when the house was built in 2002, both the existing linoleum and the hardwood floor were glued directly to the slab. For the most part, the hardwood flooring has held up nicely with only a couple of spots were the glue seems to have separated from the wood flooring causing a popping sound. The linoleum seems to be very secure to the slab with no bubbles or peeling at any place in the room. Additionally, the linoleum (while OK looking) isn’t of a high grade and has no apparent padding under it or as part of the linoleum itself. I want to be able to just pull the trim molding and continue the flooring without removing the linoleum, but I have heard mixed reviews on whether I should remove the linoleum or just lay the hardwood over the top of it. I don’t think there would be an appearance issue, but I am concerned about how well the glue would adhere to the linoleum compared to just concrete. Any thoughts??
