I searched the forum and found a few posts about finisher nail guns, but didn't find anything particular in the flooring department. Maybe it was my search wording I used.

Anyway, I was hoping to get a little help with the type to buy and ask if you have to sink the nails in and putty after each time you shoot them into the floor. ??

Do you use a 16 gauge on 3/4 inch hardwood flooring?

I was looking at this Porter-Cable, Model #FN250B that takes a compressor. or Porter Cable "Bammer" Nail Gun or senco sn70 framing air nail gun

Are there only certain ones that help protect your finish?

Thank you,

Penny

I did my floor the old-fashioned way, drilled each hole and countersunk finish nails for the first 2 or 3 runs (and the last 2 or 3,) vertically the very first and last, and angled through every tongue after that, and used a plain mechanical angled nailer on the runs in between. I looked at the pneumatics, but couldn't really justify the cost unless I wanted to go into the business, and after doing my own I sure as heck do NOT! Smiler

Wood putty is a nice idea but I didn't bother and can't tell the difference, the holes are so small. I think I used 2 inch, 16 gauge nails on my 3/4 inch white oak. If I find out different, I'll let you know.
