We have linoleum flooring over a wood floor. The previous owners glued the linoleum flooring down and it's VERY hard to get up. Is there a primer that is available to put over the linoleum in order to install ceramic tile over the lynolium flooring?
Yes there is its called plywood. Unless your going to put a mud floor down, then the linoleum can be used to prevent the moisture from the mud floor being drawn into the wood below. You must remove this material. There are professional scrapers that can be rented. Please be carefull, if this is old linoleum it could contain asbestos. Removal of same must be done with floor wet down to prevent any fibers from becoming airborne. There are products that will soften the old adhesive so it can be scraped up, but its messy and time consuming. Check with flooring store for these special products.

Don't put down plywood as no tile manufacturer recommends installing tile over plywood. You'll need to install cement board (hardie backerboard) that is made spcifically for tile. Below are some links with information.
