I'm mystified, not being a carpenter myself, by the fact that my spouse (w/4 years experience), keeps getting hired by small companies, who then "fold", especially during Fall/Winter.
Is this usual? I know there's a seasonal effect (at least here in Mass.) But, in one case, the owner really didn't want to put in the work (he'd stay home in his jammies while the crew went out!). Yet in other cases, it seems like many guys who start construction companies simply do NOT know how to run a business.
All these bosses tell him how skilled he is and what a great worker, but they don't know how to find or keep jobs.
Would he be better off working for a larger company, say, doing siding? It's not his preference, but, IMO, it's better than bouncing from one job to the next!
Any info you have will be appreciated!
(BTW, in case you're confused by my username, I'm female! I just like "The WWW"!)
