I'm going to be making a BIG move soon. I've seen the U-Hauls all over the freeways. I don't mind doing the work myself, but my biggest concern is the problem of packing everything up in as little room as possible. I'm afraid I'm going to arrive with boxes full of broken things. I'm wondering if anyone has used any San Diego packers or knows someone who has. Are professionals worth the cost?

I have not heard of those folks, however I did do the same kind of move for my son out of Tempe AZ. I rented a Budget truck. I went on line, seeing I live in NJ and called a few moving companies. I had our townhouse 2nd floor unit partly packed prior to them coming, i.e. clothes, books, all loose stuff packed. They wrapped, carried, packed the entire truck three guys in half day. I paid around $200 for their services, and tipped them all $30 each. Well worth it. BE sure that the truck your getting is fairly new. I did not use U-Haul as I did not like their trucks and the condition I saw them in. So shop around for a newer truck to use, unless your only going a few hundred miles. We had just under 3000 miles to travel.
Be sure to get packing blankets for the move. The more the better. Also some clothes line rope. They need to be able to tie things to the inside of the truck. Another good thing to have is shrink wrap material. This plastic stuff, that looks like plastic wrap you use on food, was great. It holds doors and drawers closed without using tape or rope. None of the damage those methods cause as well.
Good luck on the move.

Thanks for the great advice! I do agree with your U-Haul statement as many of their trucks seem to be on their last leg. I am definitely going to try and get some professionals and see if I am happy with the decision.
