I am stuck with a light blue tub in excellent condition although some 40 years old. We are planning on remodeling and short of destroying the tub any suggestions? Sink and toilet are same color but easy to change. Thanks in advance.

Check with companies such as bath outfitters. These companies install a complete vinyl insert over the tub and it looks like a new white tub.
You can always paint it. Although it does cost a bit to do properly. If its the main bath that gets used a lot, I do not suggest this as it will wear down fairly fast and the lovely blue will show through. If the tub is cast iron just break it out and replace with new. It will end up being the best way to approch this. Besides, to open up this area you may find that the plumbing drain will be in the need anyway of some upgrades that will help prevent future leaks. Cutting corners by not replaceing the tub only ends up costing more once the drain starts to leak. Good luck.

Ah those blue and green and pink tubs were a beautiful thing.............. in 1965. After 40 years it's probably time to take that thing out and get at the plumbing under it. I'm with homecare on that part. 40 years is a long time for bath plumbing. You'll remodel everything else and be stuck with a sub-standard tub/shower. A few years later you'll be kicking yourself for not doing it 100%.
