Hi,my name is joe, this inquiry is about putting a bathroom up on the second floor of my house.
What i like would like to do is build a platform so that if i ever have a toilet/or sink run over that the water will not take out the ceiling to the first floor and possibly put in a drain in the floor something like a overflow that you see in bathtubs.
this house was built in 1924.
we are going to put tile,in floor heating,a membrane to seal and catch over flow, corner shower, peditsal sink, toilet.
any thoughts on this project would be appreciated, thank,s,joe

My peronal feeling is that this platform is not only overkill but it would not work anyway.

AS long as you use proper building methods the interior floor of the bathroom will be fine. If your really concernd about overflows. Put a mud floor in the bathroom and pitch it towards a floor drain. Raising the floor is not going to keep water out of what ever is below.

You could build the floor all the way into the shower and design it as a curbless unit. Any water that gets on the floor will run towards the shower area.

Home Care Club has a good idea.
Mud the floor with 1/4" slope toward shower drain and create a curbless shower system.

These look fantastic.
