Does polyisocyanurate insulation need to be covered with drywall when used on a garage wall? Can it be painted with a fire-resistant paint instead? Thank you.

By code, foam insulation needs to be covered with at least a 1/2-inch layer of Type X drywall in a garage, and possibly 5/8-inch, if it's a common wall with a residential use.
