Recently I found out that I only have 3" of rock wool insulation in my home. As I live in Central PA, it gets very cold in the house in winter and hot in the summer and my gas and electric bills are high. I want to fix this so I'm not cold and my heating bills aren't through the roof. One company has proposed removing the existing rock wool insulation from the rafters and spraying 6" of spray foam at a cost of $3400. The price seems fair for the work involved (at least to me anyway). Honestly, I really don't plan on being in my current home for more than 5 years. Can I reasonably expect to recoup this investment? I was debating on whether just to buy some R-30 unfaced batts and doing it myself. The attic is 750 sq. ft. I have no problem with paying for the spray foam as long as its a good investment. FYI- I am planning on having some single paned windows replaced as well as adding a coal fireplace insert to help with the heating comfort and costs.
