I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of insulation this is and if there are any hazards involved with it... I think it needs to be replaced. It has a black "paper" and then the inside is filled with brown crumbling stuff.. It's pretty old I think this part of the house was built in 1965... if this description doesnt help respond that and i will post it online somewhere

I also have a house built around 1960 and it sounds like you may have rockwool. The paper tears very easily because of age and the fibers feel like it has steel wool in it. I blew in 8 inches of celulose on top of it and lowered my utilities alot. I have no idea what the R factor is on it.
