I am covering my heat ducts, the ducts are inside of a box in the attic that is bigger than the ductwork. should I fill the void with insulation? and then cover that with the new insulation across the attic or leave the box open? what about the backing remove that from the insulation in the box or not? Why am I finding that this is a Hard question to answer, I have gone to 3 different place short of a HAVC place....anybody have an answer...?????

After talking to a number of Insulation and HAVC people, the Most common answer I got on this is to YES insulate the void around the ductwork. This will add addional insulation and keep the heat inside the ductwork.
