I've seen/heard about a few different solid surface countertops. I'm looking for a less expensive alternative to Silestone or Corian, but not laminate/formica. Does anyone know if WilsonArt solid surface (few different styles -- earthtones, Gibralter, etc.) is lower in price and what it's comparable to? Are there others I should consider? Know anything about duPon'ts solid surface and how it compares? Are they all the same? The local selection is very limited here. And finally, what do you think of the cultured marble tops that can be ordered through big box stores? Thank you.

Suz,

Silestone and Corian are not similar materials. Silestone is a quartz engineered stone, while Corian is an acrylic solid surface material. Silestone, Zodiaq, Caesarstone, and others are in the engineered stone category, and are more expensive than solid surface materials usually.

Corian has several competitors, such as Wilsonart (which is actually manufactured for Wilsonart, and not by Wilsonart) Avonite, LG Hi-Macs, Samsung's Staron, and on and on.

sincerely,

Len
