My husband and I owned a 90 year old home in Chicago. We contrated with a local guy from the neihborhood to redo one of our bathrooms. Since we both worked we allowed him in the house to do the work leaving our phone numbers for him to call with questions.
He called me at work to ask if we wanted him to replace the bath tub, I said no that we were going to have it refinished it as it was an old heavy duty tub. When I got home the tub was gone and I called him. He said I told him to remove the tub. He replaced the tub with a cheap flimsy unit.
He subcontrated to have the tile work. First the guy got adhesive all over my carpet. Then the following day when I got home there were blue spects all over the tile. When I asked him about it he said the kids must have scribbled crayon on the tile. The kids were 17 and 19 at the time. I don't think they did it.
Needless to say we did not recommend him to anyone and we had people ask.
