See if you can find a brand name on the fireplace, and google the brand name to find their web site. If they have one, they will no doubt have the installation manual available for download, plus other information.

Depending on the brand there is either an access panel on the bottom. The louvered panel should pull down. If there isn't a lovered panel on the bottom then there should be a panel on the right side. Inside you will find all the controls. Check to make sure the wires from the wall switch are connected, tighten the screw. Also check the switch itself the connector screws might be loose. If the fireplace comes on when you flip the switch but goes out it could be a number of things. There could be excess moisture inside the box. This is common during rainy seasons or high humidity times. Once the moisture is burnt off it should stay lit.
