Hello, It turns out that our toilet is the original from when they built the house (1950) and we'd like to replace it. It has a 10" rough in. The problems are this: We just remodeled the basement and are not too excited about the idea of tearing apart the ceiling to fix this. Also, I know that you can buy 10" rough in toilets, however the tank size is wide and we would not be able to fit the vanity and would have to replace it with a pedistal sink (not really the best option for a family with kids). Is it true that I have to have 15" from the center of the toilet to the end of the vanity? Is there any other option to converting it to a 12" rough in? Any creative ideas would be helpful. Thanks.
Fifteen inches is not a hard and fast rule, but practically speaking it is probably a very good guideline, since you wouldn't want to bang your elbow on the vanity every time you went to take a ......er, seat.
There are some unique options on this link, a couple I've never seen before, including a corner toilet, but it is designed for a 12 inch rough in.
