Hi,

I'm going to replace my submersible pump, and had a question about placement of the check valve. Most installation instructions I've read say to run a short piece of pipe from the pump, then the check valve, and continue the pipe from there....making sure to drill a hole in the pipe to prevent air lock. My question...can I screw the check valve directly into the pump outlet, and then continue the pipe from there? Is there a reason there should be a short distance between the pump & valve?

I've only seen it (and done it with my own) where the check valve is screwed directly into the pump.

All sump-pump installations I have seen over 25 years have required a short piece of pipe to be run run from the sump pump before any check valve is installed.

Where the check valve ultimately should be installed is determined by the sump-pump manufacturer's installation instructions.

Follow the manufactuer's installation instructions and consult your local Building Codes if applicable..
