I have a 1940 vintage block house that I am upgrading and finishing. I need to cut at least three window opennings larger to convert them to egress windows - two basement and one attic - so I can officially call the new rooms 'bedrooms'. I need some suggestions as to how to best go about this, without demolishing the entire wall.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would have a structural engineer calculate the type, size, & length of a piece of steel which will be installed just above the height of the new window frame & extend beyond the new window opening in both directions to carry the weight of the wall. After procuring the necessary steel & before removing the existing window or any portion of the wall, I would then sawcut the block walls where needed to insstall the new steel header, install the necessary steel, then sawcut the concrete block for the rough opening of the new window, remove the block, & install the new window.
