I'm about to change my toilet to a low-flow model but I don't want to have to double-flush. I've done some research and I read about a model that uses 1.6 gallons and can flush a whole bunch of water all at once, but it's tough to find some of these things in local stores.

Another thing I want to do is put low-energy lights throughout the house, but I don't want that harsh fluorescent look all over the place. Any recommendations on good bulbs for this?

For that matter, are there any other products that are really good on energy usage but don't sacrifice quality? I don't mind spending a little more on the front end for something I'm going to like for a long time.

Thanks.

Go with the Kohler brand toilets. I believe they have ceramic finish through the center of the toilet helping the performance. Quiet, traditional performance.

Also, over the last three years I have installed two Crane brand toilets (purchased at Lowes) in my own house, with a plastic pressure tank inside the ceramic tank. These toilets use the house water pressure to build-up and fill the resevoir. When it's time to flush, stand back. The pressure is released, just like a commercial Flushometer. 1.6 gallons of pressurized flush power. They really work well, but the drawback is they are loud. I call it toilet with an attitude.

While Kohler makes a fine product I think you will be happier with a Toto product. The Toto
"Drake" is continuously rated as the best flushing toilet.
Stay away from air assisted toilets as they can be troulblesome in the long run. I've removed many "powerflush" toilets and replace them with Toto's.

You cannot buy Toto toilets at the homecenter.

I second the recommendation for the Toto. I've owned a Kohler Portrait for 5 yrs and a Toto Drake for 2 yrs -- the Toto wins by a BIG margin. The Kohler stopped up many times, but the Toto has NEVER done so. Did a lot of research before deciding on the Toto, and bought mine from Cowan Supply in Atlanta (http://www.CowanSupplyAtlanta.com). Great prices & service -- highly recommend.
I opted for the Toto Drake Elongated ADA, model CST744SL - currently $238.15 plus shipping. With adder for color, it cost me a bit over $300, and worth EVERY PENNY!
And besides, what other brand could I choose when living in Kansas? ;-)
